A few things you may have missed this weekend while sleeping off Friday night’s raucous celebration of Double Taxation’s first birthday.

As we discussed in one of our initial posts, the FMV of the gift bag given to each Oscar nominee last night is includable in their  taxable income. This year’s swag was valued at over $60,000, and included an all-expenses paid African safari. While normally this type of tribute to excess would sicken me, if it even marginally increases the chances of Angelina Jolie being consumed by a pack of lions, I’m all for it.  

Noticeably absent from the Academy Awards was former Friday and Rush Hour star Chris Tucker, who was busy bussing tables at a Beverly Hills Golden Corral in order to pay down his $12 million tax debt.

Tensions have really escalated between the Republican Presidential candidates recently, with Rick Santorum accusing Mitt Romney’s tax plan of pandering to the Occupy Wall Street protesters, and Romeny responding by purchasing Santorum’s entire hometown and converting his boyhood home into Mrs. Romney’s personal shoe closet.   

Banks are sending 1099s to customers for the value of free toasters given in exchange for opening a new account. And while that kind of sucks, I’ve always adhered to the school of thought that if your banking decisions can be swayed by the allure of free kitchenware, you probably deserve whatever you get.

Lastly, whether you’re a Communist soccer fan or not, you can appreciate this cheeky goal by Real Madrid’s freakishly gifted Christiano Ronaldo.
